IRGC Adviser Warns Iran Will Target Enemy Leaders in Any Renewed Conflict

(MENAFN) An adviser to the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned Wednesday that Tehran would target senior figures on the opposing side if Iranian commanders and leaders came under attack during any renewed conflict.

Mohammad Moghadamfar said any strike against Iran’s military leadership would prompt a direct response against the enemy’s own senior officials.

“If they target our commanders and leaders this time, they should expect their own commanders and leaders to be killed,” he said.

Moghadamfar also indicated that Iran would adopt different military tactics in the event of another confrontation, stressing that its response would not be limited by the principle of proportional retaliation.

“Our responses will no longer be reciprocal or proportional. We will go beyond the point of attack and set their assets ablaze, regardless of time or place,” he said.

He added that the Islamic Republic was preparing to follow a different approach if further military action were directed against it, signaling a possible shift in how Tehran would respond to attacks on its leadership and military assets.

Regional tensions have remained elevated since the United States and Israel launched attacks against Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran subsequently retaliated with strikes targeting Israel and US assets across the region before the sides reached a ceasefire agreement in April.

Diplomatic efforts later included a memorandum of understanding signed by Washington and Tehran on June 18 concerning freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, implementation of the agreement stalled amid unresolved disagreements over security arrangements in the strategic waterway, leaving tensions between the two sides unresolved.
