Iran Issues Warning Over Army Presence in Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Iran warned Saturday that any military vessel attempting to interfere with operations in the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt maritime traffic could become a target of Iranian armed forces.

According to reports from Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the warning was issued by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which serves as the country’s highest joint military command coordinating between the regular armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The statement said that control of the strategic waterway is being exercised “with full authority” by Iran’s military establishment.

It added that commercial ships, oil tankers, and other vessels must follow designated routes and obtain authorization from the IRGC Navy when transiting the strait.

The military command further warned that any violation of these regulations could endanger the safety of vessels operating in the area.

It also cautioned foreign naval forces against any actions that could interfere with what it described as Iran’s management of the waterway or disrupt navigation.

“Any attempt by military vessels to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt navigation will be targeted by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the statement said.

The Strait of Hormuz, situated between Iran and Oman, is a critical global shipping route through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass.

The warning comes amid sharply heightened regional tensions following earlier strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran in February, which led to retaliatory attacks and broader instability across the Gulf region.

The statement also follows recent remarks by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who rejected Iran’s claims of control over the waterway and insisted that Washington maintains operational dominance in the area.
