Iranian Schools in Gulf Shift Online as Regional War

(MENAFN) Seven Iranian-run schools in the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait were shut down during the recent conflict involving the United States and Israel, according to an Iranian education ministry spokesperson.

As stated by reports citing IRNA, Ali Farhadi, spokesman for Iran’s Education Ministry, said that some affected students are continuing their studies online through Iranian schools operating from Oman, while others are being supervised directly by institutions inside Iran.

He stressed that authorities are trying to ensure continuity in education despite the disruption. “The goal is to ensure that there is no disruption in the education of Iranian students under any circumstances,” he said.

Farhadi also criticized what he described as an “illegal” decision by the UAE authorities to expel around 2,500 Iranian students. He added that, in coordination with Oman, those students would be able to continue their education there until the end of the academic year.

According to the statement, Iranian schools in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are currently functioning remotely, with classes expected to be completed online.

The remarks come in the aftermath of a recent escalation in regional tensions. Reports state that the United States and Israel carried out a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to respond with strikes targeting US-linked interests across the region, including in several Gulf states.

A ceasefire was later announced on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, followed by talks in Islamabad on April 11–12. However, negotiations reportedly ended without a final agreement.

US President Donald Trump later indicated that the truce had been extended at Pakistan’s request while awaiting further proposals from Tehran. However, he recently suggested he is unlikely to accept Iran’s latest offer, which included reopening the Strait of Hormuz while deferring nuclear-related discussions to a later stage.
