Iran Reportedly Signals Preference for Vance in Possible US Talks

(MENAFN) According to reports, Iran has indicated to the Trump administration that it would prefer to engage in negotiations with US Vice President JD Vance rather than with other senior American officials.

The information, based on regional sources cited in reporting, suggests that Iranian representatives conveyed their stance through indirect channels, expressing reluctance to resume discussions with special envoy Steve Witkoff or former White House adviser Jared Kushner. This hesitation is attributed to what they described as a “deficit of trust,” following earlier negotiations that reportedly preceded joint US-Israeli military actions.

Sources further indicated that Vance is perceived as more inclined toward bringing an end to the conflict, with the view that he may be focused on concluding hostilities. At the same time, it was noted that Iran would still engage with whichever officials the US chooses to send, even if there are preferred counterparts.

A possible meeting in Islamabad later in the week has been mentioned in reports, although its realization remains uncertain, with skepticism expressed by those familiar with the discussions.

Separately, US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran are currently underway and that several officials, including Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Witkoff, and Kushner, are all involved in diplomatic efforts.

Reports also indicate that a 15-point proposal was transmitted to Iran via Pakistan, outlining a potential framework to end the conflict. The plan is said to address issues related to Iran’s nuclear activities, ballistic missile program, and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials have acknowledged receiving messages from intermediary countries conveying US interest in negotiations, while maintaining that no direct talks with Washington are currently taking place.

Meanwhile, ongoing hostilities have continued since February 28, with US and Israeli airstrikes reportedly causing significant casualties and damage in Iran. In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as neighboring countries such as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets. These exchanges have contributed to broader regional disruption, affecting infrastructure, aviation, and global markets.
