Israeli Police Rescue Female Soldiers Chased by Ultra-Orthodox Men
Video from Bnei Brak showed the soldiers running through streets littered with rubbish and overturned bins, as officers formed a protective barrier. Authorities arrested more than 20 people during the incident.
Reports indicate the soldiers were mistakenly believed to be delivering army conscription orders. While military service is mandatory for most Jewish Israelis, ultra-Orthodox Jews have historically been exempt, and proposed reforms have sparked tensions in the community.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack as "unacceptable." He added, "This is an extreme minority that does not represent the entire Haredi [ultra-Orthodox] community." He emphasized: "We will not allow anarchy, and we will not tolerate any harm to IDF servicemen and security forces who carry out their duties with dedication and determination."
Jewish religious leaders also criticized the actions of those involved. Riot police used stun grenades against the crowd and arrested 23 individuals. Three officers were injured, and several police vehicles, including a patrol car and a motorcycle, were damaged or destroyed, as reported by authorities.
According to Israeli broadcaster, the soldiers had been on an official visit to another service member’s home when the confrontation occurred.
