Israeli Forces Fatally Shoot Palestinian Man in Nablus

(MENAFN) A Palestinian man was fatally shot by Israeli forces during a military operation in the Al-Ain refugee camp in Nablus, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed on Sunday.

The victim, 42-year-old Majed Daoud, sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen and limbs during the early-morning raid, which unfolded in a densely populated area of the northern West Bank city.

Medics from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society responded to the scene, where they treated two individuals with gunshot wounds. One of the injured was in serious condition. Daoud was given emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation but was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. According to the society, a 22-year-old man also suffered shrapnel injuries to his feet caused by live ammunition.

Eyewitnesses and Palestinian security sources said the incident began when undercover Israeli units entered a neighborhood within the camp and surrounded a residential building. Heavy gunfire reportedly followed, with clashes breaking out as Israeli reinforcements moved in. Residents alleged they were physically assaulted during the raid.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Israeli army had issued no public comment regarding the Nablus operation.

The fatal shooting came just one day after two Israeli soldiers were injured in a separate incident in Tubas, also in the northern West Bank. According to Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Avichay Adraee, the soldiers were hurt by an explosive device thrown by a Palestinian. Both were moderately wounded and transported to a hospital.

No Palestinian faction has claimed responsibility for that attack.

Violence in the occupied West Bank has surged since October 7, 2023, as Israel has intensified its military presence across the territory. According to Palestinian figures, more than 950 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli operations in cities, villages, and refugee camps over the past year.
